What does it mean if I receive a hold on my account after I’ve made a deposit?

When you deposit a check, some or all of the check amount may not be included in your available balance for a period of time. This is for the purpose of validating the check and collecting the funds from the issuing bank. A hold notice will be provided to you at the time of deposit indicating the type of hold and date the funds will be made available. If the deposit was not made in-person and a hold is placed, a notice will be sent to the mailing address on file.
